Features
SCMG (shape-controlled micro graphite) from Showa Denko is utilised as an anode in large lithium-ion batteries for electric vehicles. Several electric vehicle models have utilised the material. SCMG enhances lithium-ion battery load current characteristics and charge and discharge cycle life. The increased load current characteristic allows for the use of heavy current, while the increased cycle life ensures that batteries may be used for a long time.
SCMG is utilised as a graphite anode material in lithium-ion rechargeable batteries (LIBs) because it has excellent cycle properties, retains capacity at high temperatures, and allows for strong current charge/discharge. Large LIBs used in environmentally friendly cars and storage batteries benefit from this material. SCMG is already in use in commercial electric vehicles.
In the anodes and cathodes of LIBs, VGCF (vapour generated carbon fibre) is employed as an electrically conductive additive. Because VGCF is made up of branching fibres with a high dispersion, it performs better than grain-type additives. As a result, adding a little quantity of VGCF to LIBs can assist boost their capacity and lifespan. VGCF can improve the safety of LIBs due to its high electrical conductivity and capacity to limit heat generation in electrodes.
Showa Denko's lithium-ion battery anode materials technology is used in select model grades of new hybrid and electric automobiles. To increase fuel efficiency, lithium-ion batteries used in electric vehicles require a large-current charging/discharging capacity. Showa Denko Materials has refined the particle shapes, sizes, and other attributes of anode materials through acquired technologies such as particle design and surface structure management to help these batteries for electrified cars successfully charge/discharge at a large-current.
