Overview

Amazon offers AWS Backup which is a fully managed backup service that helps organizations to centralize and automate data backup across AWS services in the cloud as well as on premises using the AWS Storage Gateway. The solution has the capability to centrally configure backup policies and monitor backup activity for AWS resources. The solution automates and consolidates backup tasks previously performed service-by-service, whicle detaching the need to create custom scripts and manual processes. AWS Backup console, also allows users to create backup policies that automate backup schedules and retention management.

Features

Multiple Locations - Amazon EC2 has the ability to place instances in multiple locations. . Amazon EC2 locations are framed of Regions and Availability Zones. Regions are geographically dispersed, will be in separate geographic areas or countries and it includes one or more Availability Zones. The Amazon EC2 Service Level Agreement commitment is available for each Amazon EC2 Region 99.99%. Availability Zones are discrete locations, orchestrated to be insulated from failures in other Availability Zones.

Pause and Resume – Amazon EC2 can hole up for certain duration backed by Amazon EBS and later you can resume them from this state. An Applications that take a while to bootstrap and persist state into memory (RAM) can benefit from this aspect.

On-Demand – On-Demand instances allow to pay for compute capacity by the hour or second (min 60 seconds) with no long-term commitments or upfront payments. The user can increase or decrease compute capacity depending on the demands of their application and can only pay for the specified rates that can be used.

Savings Plans - Savings Plans are flexible that offer low prices on EC2 and Fargate usage, in exchange for a specific amount of usage of compute power (measured in $/hour) ) for a one or three year term. The user can sign up for Savings Plans for one or three year term and easily get benefits of recommendations, performance reporting and budget alerts in the AWS Cost Explorer.

Reserved Instances - Reserved Instances offer a significant discount up to 75% compared to On-Demand instance pricing and can be purchased for one year or three year term. The purchase option for Reserved Instances include Standard Reserved Instances and Purchase Convertible Reserved Instances. Reserved Instances provide a capacity reservation, enabling you to launch instances when you need them.

Spot instances - Amazon EC2 Spot instances, let you pay for the Spot price that's in effect for the time period your instances are running. Spot Instance prices are set by Amazon EC2 and can adjust based on long-term trends in supply and demand for Spot Instance capacity. Spot Instances are available at a discount price of up to 90% off compared to On-Demand pricing and it also available to run for a predefined duration such as hourly increments up to six hours length at a discount of up to 30-50% compared to On-Demand pricing.

Dedicated Hosts -

A Dedicated Host price varies by instance family, region, and payment option. It is physical EC2 server help you to minimize costs by using your existing server-bound software licenses such as Windows Server, SQL Server, and SUSE Linux Enterprise Server. A Dedicated Host pricing model offer with a discount of up to 70% compared to On-Demand pricing.

Per Second Billing -

The pricing model of per-second billing, enable you to pay for only what you use. A usages are billed on one second increments, with a minimum of 60 seconds. This plan aims to use an unused minutes and seconds in an hour off of the bill to manage your instances running for irregular periods of time.

The customer can use the AWS Management Console, AWS Command Line Tools (CLI), or AWS SDKs to get started with Amazon EC2.
