Apple is continuously working to improve its maps application and transform it into a better competitor’s alternative. The company has launched various geofencing applications under location-based services, and is expanding its features and capabilities in the geofencing market. The company has also developed a couple of new patent applications that are working on advanced geofencing capabilities for its operating systems. These patents also have location-based authentication applications that further enhance the reach of location-based marketing. Through Apple’s customized location notifications, users can send and receive notifications from their friends as they move across predetermined zones. The first user requests the second user via push notifications to share his/her location. Once it is shared, both the devices can share routes and events, and further, the broadcasting of notification is activated in the user’s phone. When the second user enters or crosses a preset geofenced zone, the first user is notified. If the second user is minutes away from the event, the first user is informed via a response message and a PoI route is displayed. Instapaper is an iPhone/iPad app, whose main function is to enable users to save articles found on the web for reading offline later. With Instapaper’s geofencing capabilities, users can enable the application to automatically download the saved articles to the iPhone, whenever the user enters or leaves a location. Similarly, with the Find My Friends application, the "notify me" page features a customizable boundary or geofencing option that can be expanded or contracted around a located iOS device. Users can adjust the monitored area around a device by selecting the "change location" button, which resets the geofencing threshold to allow more accurate location-based notifications.

USP : The Indoor Remote Triggered Location Scanning application lets Apple locate an iPhone user inside a building, with the help of preset nodes or iBeacons that can detect the location of a device. To locate an iPhone user indoors, the system would assess the signal strength from 3 nearby permanent nodes and determine the approximate distance to each one, and thus establish the location of a device using triangulation.
